Hyeone is interested in urban food forests as an emerging integrated approach to enhance ecosystem services and resilience for urban communities. Her PhD research comprehensively assesses the ecosystem services of urban food forests and community gardens in the city of Vancouver, maps trades-off and synergies of ecosystem services, and examines the drivers of ES and beneficiaries of different ES associations.
Hyeone’s Masters research examined the potential of food forestry to assist in ecological restoration in North America. She developed a model to help understand emerging food forestry and a Criteria and Indicators framework for monitoring food forests in the context of ecological restoration.
