urban forestry, Latin America, research network, green infrastructure, social-ecological systems
While the biophysical and various social aspects of urban forests have been studied in Latin America, there is still a gap in understanding their potential for sustainability. This project brings together researchers and practitioners from Latin America to synthesize the potential of urban nature to support sustainability in Latin America, using urban forests and trees as a thematic focus. This synthesis will be achieved by putting together existing social and ecological datasets into joint databases; exploring this database through a series of analytical activities to understand the underlying structure, functioning, and interaction of urban forests at multiple scales; and, drawing from this empirical exploration to develop a socio-environmental framework that will distil key considerations to strengthen research and decision-making in urban forestry.
